{ marfa in martha } paper — part III of IV

March 1st, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Beauty | Paper

The details of Emily and Colby’s wedding were nothing short of amazing. The four panel invitation by Southern Fried Paper was inspired by the Mexican folk art of papel picado. (Which literally translates to “punched paper”.) The elaborate designs are traditionally cut from tissue paper using a guide and small chisels, creating as many as forty banners at a time. The invitation panels were laser cut and strung, then folded into the envelope. The escort cards and table numbers were made with paper tags and vintage stamps to continue the handmade theme of the wedding. And who can resist the adorable paper straws and flag stir sticks?

Every place setting displayed a stamped initial place card and a (real) salvaged horseshoe in a crocheted wrap. Emily adds, “Colby and I went on a road trip the summer of 2010: we drove from Fort Worth to San Diego and back.  Colby actually proposed to me on this trip in San Diego. One of our stops was Tucson, and we stopped in this amazing little shop called Telegram, where I purchased one of the horseshoes. When we started planning our wedding I knew I wanted to use the horseshoes as favors because I loved how colorful, fun, crafty and Texas (hello, horseshoe!) they were. I contacted the artist and commissioned about 100 of them for our wedding favors. I even purchased yarn at a shop in Marfa called Wild Woolies and sent it to her to use, making the favors even more special/Marfa-ized.”

These adorable stamped flags were made by the bride.
