DIY birdcage veil–by Lauren Samuels, HOUSE of LOVELY
The hardest thing to understand when considering making your own birdcage veil kit is how the measurements of the veil correspond with your head and how that will look. These veil kits start out as a FULL size birdcage veil- so there is always room for alterations! The height of the veil is determined by the distance from where you want the comb to be placed to where you want the veil to stop. The width of the veil depends on the measurement around your head and how tight you would like it to fit. If you see that the measurements of the veil are larger than you’d like, then you can easily trim off excess!
Once the measurements are set, go ahead and thread your needle. Tie a thread knot around the corner of one end of the veil and continue threading the little square boxes along the CUT EDGE.
Once you are at the end of the comb, go ahead and snip off the end of the ribbon- leaving about 1/2” to melt and sew down!
It’s tradition to shower the bride and groom with handfuls of rice or seed as they exit the ceremony or reception. And brides have become increasingly creative with their exit strategies. One of my favorites is confetti. Confetti makes everything feel more like a celebration. Think about New Year’s Eve in NYC – how anticlimactic would it be if there was no confetti drop? Exit photos are some of my favorite images at a wedding.
The original eco-friendly toss was uncooked rice but there was a theory that it made birds’ stomachs go poof. (Since disproved… phew.) Brides then opted for birdseed instead. Now there are many eco-friendly and colorful alternatives that dissolve in hours. (Ecoparti is one vendor.)
Ribbon, Lace, and Streamers are BOW-TIFUL!
Luxe silk ribbons, patterned grosgrain, and vintage lace are all great ways to wrap up your pretty bouquet. Think of adding a family heirloom or sentimental charm to really personalize your big day blooms!
Before spring fades to summer, use wildflowers to add color and life to your photography. Wildflowers add a natural, timeless feel to your images while giving your photos texture and color. There are endless ways to edit these natural beauties. You can get a light, soft feel similar to the image below. You can also go with a burst of warm or cool color like the last two photos.
Rental companies are just getting insanely good. It’s really kind of amazing how far we are from the chivari chair and white linens (not that there’s anything wrong with those) but options. I like options. Alicia actually passed this one on to me, Casa de Perrin and I seriously am freaking out over this selection. It’s perfection. Put together by an architectural photographer and a food stylist, it’s seriously so good. All rich in history and perfectly diverse to allow you to put your touch on the wedding. Often with events I put my money into furniture rather than some other aspects. It all depends on what it is but I think that a lounge or great tablescapes can be equally as impactful if not more so. Just sayin’. Something to think about when you’re working on that budget! *AND PS – their website is rad. Kudos to the graphic designer on that one. Gorgeous.
