love by the lake

A love for vintage, two ultra creative people and extensions of creativity running through their dearest friends made Berry and Kevin Thomas’s quaint wedding on White Rock Lake flawless, sunkissed perfection. Both the ceremony and reception were at Winfrey Point, a city owned building for gatherings perfectly overlooking White Rock since 1942 (this year marks it’s 70th birthday of hosting beautiful occasions). Flowers by non other than Bows and Arrows, calligraphy by the bride, invitations by the groom, cake by the matron of honor, food by CN Catering and photography by Absolute Photography and helping hands by the wedding party. The tables were four long communal tables filled with literally hundreds of gathered jars, candle holders and lanterns. The candlelight was an amazing and rare sight to see. The night ended with music jumpin’ and a driving away in a vintage car with tins cans clinking congratulations.

a charming mess

“These days more and more brides are falling for a DIY wedding aesthetic that values beauty as craft and embraces the charming quirks of creative imperfection. There’s no reason why this aesthetic can’t be explored further with cakes that incorporate a deceptively messy quality. What these cakes lack in perfectly angled fondant and delicate detail work, they make up for with mouth-watering scrumptiousness, playfulness, and organic fluidity: oozy chocolate ganache, fresh, juicy berries, and liberal layers of rich cream. While not fitting of every occasion, these pieces are a refreshing reminder that a cake is after all…a cake.”

Stamps have always been a hot collectable… but not exactly for young women planning a wedding. Recently we’ve seen a resurgence in vintage stamps on wedding and event invitations. Some couples spend their entire engagement collecting cool vintage stamps that represent them or the invitation recipient. (For example you find some stamps about quilting and knitting for your aunt who likes to sew.) It’s just another part of your invitation that you can customize and coordinate. Higher face value stamps are harder to come by so you should snatch them up when you can. (Check your local YellowPages for stamp stores.) You could always put a relatively old stamp (say 1990s) paired with an interesting 1 cent stamp from 200 years ago. Make sure you get uncanceled and unused stamps. You’ll end up spending a little more than face value (the amount shown on the stamp) but your guests will be wowed!

flea market flowers

The flowers are not from the flea market, but the bouquets are inspired from the objects next to them…belgian flea market finds! I always talk about taking inspiration from anywhere and everywhere….this is a perfect example!

I’ve been obsessed with Yeah Rentals ever since I saw I first encountered them. It’s an amazing collection of mid-century to give you a rare opportunity to break away from the chivari chairs and into your personality. As mid-century modern lover this makes my heart smile.
