and the winner is

Pantone’s forecast for top colors of 2013 were just released and here are the winners! The selections build upon the need for balance – mixing energizing brights with novel neutrals. Number one is a muted navy – Monaco Blue. Very conservative compared to last year’s Tangerine Tango. My money was on number 4 – Grayed Jade. (Still in the top 5!)  In the coming year, we’ll see these colors in everything from fashion to wedding colors.

I love a clean navy and white palette – you can’t go wrong with this classic combination. For those more daring brides, a Monaco Blue also pairs nicely with a bold yellow or orange.

Here’s a look at Pantone’s predictions from 2012. Tangerine Tango was selected as the number one.

bouquet-o-bow

maid of honor? wondering how to make the bride’s toss bouquet?

WHAT you will need: all bridal shower and/or couples shower bows from gifts, one cardboard toilet paper roll,

& paper flowers for FLAIR

tie a double bow at the top of each ribbon

for each pre-made ribbon tie it to a free straight ribbon and give it a tail

now, all of your ribbons and bows have tails

gather all of the ribbons together with bows at the top

almost there, it’s coming together so nicely!

at the base where all the bows have been collected tie a good, tight knot!

tie another knot about four inches below

feed the knot through the tp roll and pull all the ribbon tails through

fasten another color of ribbon at the top of the roll and wrap the roll until it is covered completely

trim up all of your ribbon tails and snip the end of each to make a beautifully manicured

add the finishing paper flower flair…and

VOILA!!

I’m not gonna lie – I get a little giddy around back to school time. It’s like office supply heaven! I believe your desk accessories should be just as beautiful as the stationery you write on. These are a few of my absolute favorites.

One of the unique trends we’re seeing this season is hand painted details. Everything from flowers to a custom illustration of the bride and groom… in a a one-of-a-kind artistic look. Rifle Paper Co. popularized the style (and have been featured in just about every major magazine) so I wanted so share some of their fabulous work today! Enjoy!

Engaging Engraving

August 2nd, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Paper - (Comments Off)

Engraving is a historic method of producing images on paper, both in artistic printmaking, and also for commercial reproductions and illustrations. Engraving may be broadly defined as the art of drawing on any substance by means of an incised line. Plates used in engraving are usually made of well polished copper, but silver, steel, brass and pewter plates have also been used. Steel was often used in the second quarter of the last century but the more recently applied method of steel-facing by electrolysis of the copper. Any imperfections are then corrected by hand with a scraper or burnisher.

Like a lot of designers, I love ampersands. And I mean paying-$500-for-an-ampersand-sculpture kind of love. However, not all “and” symbols are created equally. There is a fine art to the ampersand. I especially love when they work their way in to weddings. What character could be more appropriate?
