lights, camera, celebrate

Lights are so incredibly magical. I think the focus falls to heavily on candles and not that I don’t love candles and have a house full of them but string lights are truly magical. I just finished up our backyard and we swung lights out to a tree and back to the house. It’s just gorgeous. And then there’s the whole next level of a tunnel or a ceiling of lights… stunning.

guest blog: for the love of art {& love} on Etsy

May 18th, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Parties | Style - (Comments Off)

It’s a happy Friday and exciting to announce a small curated collection of art by yours truly on the beloved Etsy. Art is a FANTASTIC gift for a wedding. Most newly weds DO need plates, towels and the bare necessities but they also typically have some pretty sad, blank walls. I think if you can find crowd pleasing art (or if you know them really well and can get specific) there is no better gift than ORIGINAL art. Most of us can’t afford it but Etsy makes is accessible and there’s tons of amazing talent. I shop there all the time for interior design jobs. I love that it supports artists and creative people and it brings it into someone else’s home.  Check out the full post here.

sucker for scallops

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Style - (Comments Off)

Scallops. The repetition, the soft sweet side of geometry. This feminine arc based textured can be seemingly modern or all together purely classic. Today a look at scallops in fashion. So lovely.

casa de ooh la la

Rental companies are just getting insanely good. It’s really kind of amazing how far we are from the chivari chair and white linens (not that there’s anything wrong with those) but options. I like options. Alicia actually passed this one on to me, Casa de Perrin and I seriously am freaking out over this selection. It’s perfection. Put together by an architectural photographer and a food stylist, it’s seriously so good. All rich in history and perfectly diverse to allow you to put your touch on the wedding. Often with events I put my money into furniture rather than some other aspects. It all depends on what it is but I think that a lounge or great tablescapes can be equally as impactful if not more so. Just sayin’. Something to think about when you’re working on that budget! *AND PS – their website is rad. Kudos to the graphic designer on that one. Gorgeous.

oh the (five) places we will go

April 30th, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Style - (Comments Off)

Mexico. My happy place. My husband teases me because I talk about escaping to Mexico all the time. I love it. Last year for our one year anniversary we went to Rivera Maya. I had never been to Cancun and I was a little nervous. Hoping for a “honeymoon” and not a “spring break” I wasn’t sure what we were getting or about our safety with all of the press surrounding the area at that time. What we got was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had, completely safe and perfect. And get this — wait for it — it was all inclusive. I think that was the best part. It was like going to the best restaurants and hotels for days and never blinking an eye. At any time of stress or just seeking a moment of peaceful bliss this is the place I think of. So after a gorgeous wedding this weekend (will share soon) wishing two very dear friends a happy new life together and sending them off on their honeymoon – I had vacations on the brain. Today I share with you five places that I think need to be on your list for Mexico.

**In honor of Cinco de Mayo Hello Love celebrates Mexico this week — thus I picked five places!**

1. The One and Only Palmilla – it’s on the bucket list. More here and here.

2. Rosewood Mayakoba – you get to take this adorable little boat to your room —- WHAT??!?! We visited while we were there and they have a GREAT little tequila bar that I highly recommend. More here and here.

3. Deseo – I wish I knew more about it but what I know is that the decor is KILLER. I have to say I completely judge a book by it’s cover. When searching for a hotel the first thing I do is type in the names and hit Google images. It’s what makes me happy. A beautiful hotel is a weakness for me but of course it must be comfortable. Deseo seems minimal but perfect. See the entire hotel here. FAB.

4. Maroma – with a 7,000 square foot spa I don’t think you have to twist my arm to go here. More on Maroma found here and here.

5. Grand Velas Rivera Maya – This list would not be complete without showing the INSANE spa at the luxury all inclusive (yes, those two words actually do go hand in hand) at Grand Velas. By far, the moment that set that trip apart from so many. Read about our entire experience here. And this is a pretty great write up on Grand Velas here too.

lord of the ring

April 27th, 2012 | Posted by Hello Love in Style | Uncategorized - (1 Comments)

When I decided to propose to my girlfriend I knew the ring would have to be something special and unique. I researched for months until I ran across a little antique jewelry shop called Erie Basin in Red Hook Brooklyn. I was immersed in this tiny world of antique rings and wondered which one would win me a bride! Erie Basin’s website and blog are beautiful but the shop, and the relics in it, transport one to another time and place!  – Adam Rico

Guestbooks can be tricky. They have become so much more than the simple book that your mother shoved onto a table hours before the ceremony. Now it’s photos, frames, typewriters, you name it if it documents the attendees then it’s fair game. A few inspiration photos for you. My favorites are the record, the map of the US (which could also be your state – we Texans are proud so I could see the shape of TX being really great) and the top is probably the dictionary. Sometimes it can be so tough to think of something to write that everyone else hasn’t already said so that’s super cute and helpful AND it’s actually a book you would be able to put in your home not just in a box hidden with all the rest of your wedding keepsakes. And wouldn’t it be fun if you actually used that dictionary every once in a while!?
